I have always thrived when I know my “why”. Through athletics, personal relationships, and now into my professional life, purpose is something I have pursued aggressively. This mindset aligns very closely to a large portion of my generation. We desire to work within a company which we are proud to be a part of. We seek to make an impact on more than just ourselves. We, as a human race, have shown our capabilities. We are developing cures to deadly diseases through modern science, creating methods of communication to stay infinitely connected, and sending people to Mars. Our potential is limitless. So why not use our capabilities for a greater good? The human race was put on Earth for reasons much larger than we can even comprehend. The consumer society recognizes this and holds brands to a higher standard. Trends are showing that we care more about what the brand is doing to improve our world (More than 9 in 10 millennials would switch brands to one associated with cause (91% vs 85% US avg). Whether it be through sustainability, advocacy, or charitable efforts, businesses now need to exist for more than profit.
Though I have always known the importance of purpose, I perceived a bit of disconnect between working with purpose and working IN purpose. CCOP has completely broken that ceiling for me. I now see that there are careers centered completely around the purpose space and social impact. This has completely redefined my professional standards. It is inspiring to know that my generation doesn’t have to settle for either paycheck or purpose and humbling to learn from those who have paved the way to this reality. With this knowledge I have gained, it is now my responsibility to share it with millennials and beyond to inspire them to join this movement. Everyone should know that their talents can and should be contributed toward the greater good. “Allow your passion to become your purpose, and it will one day become your profession."
Our world is at a point where social impact and purpose are at the center of innovation. I consider myself incredibly lucky to be a young adult in a time like this and even more lucky to have had the privilege to learn from the woman who has been a pivotal game changer in the space. Throughout my time with Carol Cone ON PURPOSE, I have learned that good intentions alone, while important, will not bring impact to your mission. Consistent strategy, authenticity, and solid leadership to streamline processes are crucial to cultivating ultimate impact. The Purpose Collaborative is a brilliant business model that brings together people with shared vision and different specializations producing maximum upside. This collaborative structure eliminates the ego of competition for the greater good. With the right people that Carol Cone has brought together, the potential for Carol Cone ON PURPOSE is tremendous. I know that CCOP will transform modern business in the purpose space and I am so proud to have had the opportunity to contribute to its launch!
